THE
THEORY OF C.G. JUNG AMPLIFICATION- Clarification of a dream image by means of
making associations and finding parallels from our life experience, myths,
fairy tales, folklore and religion.
ANIMA
- ( Latin "soul ") The unconscious feminine side of a man's
personality. She is depicted in dreams by images of women ranging from
seductress, angel , queen, and spiritual guide ( Wisdom) . She is the principle
of Eros, or relatedness. She is formed around the archetype in the unconscious
by the experience of every female a man has ever known. She is the bridge to
the unconscious.
ANIMUS
- (LATIN -"spirit") The unconscious masculine side of a woman's
personality. It is formed from the archetype at its core and then filled in by
every experience of the masculine that a woman has. He can show up in a dream
as a spirit guide, physician, Actor, husband, etc He acts as a bridge between
the woman's ego and her creative unconscious resources. If a woman is overly identified
with it, it appears as rigid and opinionated. He personifies the Logos
principle. In our patriarchal society, women introject the negative patriarchal
values ie:- unfeeling, rigid and demanding of perfection.
ARCHETYPE
- Psychic imprints, inherited inborn patterns of experience. Only the form is
inherited the content is filled in by life experience.
COLLECTIVE
UNCONSCIOUS - The deepest level of the unconscious which does not contain
personal experience but instead the collective history of humanity including
all myth, folklore, religions and images of the divine. It is from this level
that "Big Dreams " come.
COMPLEX
- an emotionally charged cluster of ideas, thoughts or experiences stored in
the Personal Unconscious. At the center of a complex is an archetype of human
experience i.e. Abandonment- that is the core and then similar life experiences
attach and form the complex.i.e., abandonment complex.
CONSCIOUSNESS
- Our state of being aware. The state from which we act out our personality.
EGO
- it is a complex of all of our experience, it resides mostly in consciousness
on the border between consciousness and the personal unconscious. It wills,
chooses and makes decisions based on its ability to test reality. I can be seen
as a mediator between the outer realities and the inner realities.
INDIVIDUATION-
the process of becoming fully who we were created to be- the state of having
realized our fullest potential- the goal of the process of self development.
LIBIDO-
psychic energy- Freud spoke of libido as just sexual but Jung regards libido as
all psychic energy.
PERSONA
- The mask- the personality we wear for the world - persona is how others see
us and know us. The Persona is one's social role it is formed as we grow up and
incorporate the expectations of our family, church, school and society.
PERSONAL
UNCONSCIOUS -stores our life experience - traumas, gifts and complexes.
The
SHADOW- resides on this level - it is a collection of unconscious contents
which is not readily available to conscious except through dreams and hypnosis.
SELF
- The central organizing principle of the psyche. It embraces both the
conscious and unconscious. Jung refers to it as the center and the
circumference of the psyche. It provides the energy for the growth and development
toward your individuation. It has only one goal - that you individuate. It is
experienced as divine and powerful in dreams.
SHADOW
- aspects of our personality both positive and negative that have been
relegated to the unconscious whether negative or positive - because our
conscious life will not permit expression of them .It appears in dreams as a
person of the same sex as the dreamer. Symbol - The best possible expression
for something that is unknown. Symbols are the language of the unconscious.
